The National Museum Of Korea

Since we are quickly running out of weekends, Nick and I decided to spend this one doing some things that we have been meaning to do before we leave. Unfortunately, yesterday it poured buckets so we were unable to go up the Gupabal mountain that we've wanted to hike for a while. Today we decided to finally go to the National Museum of Korea. It was quite nice :)

The grounds themselves were pristine and amazing. The museum was gigantic, a soaring piece of architecture with amazing views of Namsan mountain and Seoul Tower. It was somewhat cloudy but still very muggy and hot out. The inside of the museum was just as lovely as the inside, all smooth and polished stones.

Nick and I enjoyed the archeological section. We checked out ancient pots and tools, weapons and bronze armor for horses and guards alike. Then we went on to check out the extensive silk screens, beautiful calligraphy art, and many beautiful depictions of Buddha. Last we viewed the private collections and it was wonderful seeing gorgeous statues and delicate porcelains.

POLY Goes to Space!

The Air and Space Museum, that is!

Today we had our field trip to the museum. Nick and I got to spend the day together since our two classes were a "team" - I'm sure our bus was by far the loudest bus in the country. It didn't help that the bus drivers got lost trying to find the entrance of the museum and we went around in circles for an extra fifteen minutes, haha. Our kids were rowdy and eager to be at the museum. It was impossible to make them settle down.

When we finally got to the museum, the kiddies were rearing to go. The kids had a great time watching 3D movies about Mars, looking at model airplanes, and flying a helicopter simulator. Nick and I couldn't understand anything really since it was all in Korean, but we were able to enjoy ourselves looking at the giant engines, satellites, gyros, and gauges they had on display.

It was a hot, muggy day, but we still took the kids outdoors to see the grounded planes. We had fun taking pictures with both of our classes together and then it was back on the bus and back to school. A decent lunch and some play time followed. All in all it was a good day :)

Our Kids Go Red

Today, Red Devil fever hit our school as our kids got all hyped up for the World Cup match tonight. Nick and I got in on the fun and put fake tattoos on all of our kids. We colored soccer pages and made Korean flags to decorate our classrooms with. They looooved it. We got some awesome shots of them showing their pride for their country and their soccer team. :)

It was too bad Korea lost against Argentina, but I guess it was expected - Argentina is a good team.

Now That's A Lot Of Pork

Today Nick and I spent a busy day at work and then went over to Costco (most likely for the last time!) to get our meat for the next 6 weeks. They were out of our normal pre-cut pork tenderloin, but for the same price (around 20,000 won!) they had a very large tenderloin all wrapped up, uncut. Nick and I decided that for the price, I could just cut it all up at home.

It was a heck of a job cutting up so much pork! I felt like a butcher, haha. Nick got some photos of me chopping up the pork as I got more and more unhappy slicing off silverskin and handling all that raw meat. After I was done we had 22 slabs of meat - that's a lot of food! I was quite over it by the time I was done.
