Yongsan Electronics Market

What a trip! Our Sunday adventure led us to the Yongsan Electronics Market today. This is where you can buy basically anything that has anything to do with electronics. We were absolutely flabbergasted at the sheer amount of computer related, television related, camera related, music related, and gaming related paraphernalia we saw today. Rows and rows of switches, motherboards, fans, LED lights, computer cases, televisions, connectors, cameras...you name the electronic doodad and we saw it today. We not only saw it, but we saw 10,000 of them, all bootleg, and all super cheap.

We only managed to hit three of the six massive indoor electronics malls in the area. Each mall has several stories crammed full of electronic wares. The main mall we perused had a floor for individual computer components (as in, you want to build your computer wire by wire), a floor devoted only to cameras, a floor for audio, a floor for laptops, a floor for desktops, a floor for phones, a floor for home appliances, a floor for video and computer games, and a floor for video related equipment.

Then there were the mazes of tents and stands, some open air, some tucked into tiny little mock store fronts (and some literally off the back of a truck, haha). We saw telephones and remote controls and video games and computer games and computers galore. We saw so many switches and wires and computer hardware and software it made our heads spin. Every time we thought we were nearing the end another alley would open up, another aisle would cut a corner and continue on, another peddler was yelling at us that they had the best deals.

We found the cell phone boutiques to be the most amusing. What at first appeared to be nail salons were actually brightly lit, flamboyantly colored cell phone stores with little glass desks and chairs for you to sit and negotiate your phone plans/cost. We probably saw close to 10,000 phones if not more as we walked all around.

We couldn't stop marveling at all of the wares and will definitely be back if we ever need ANYTHING electronic.

We ended our weekend at home with a little home cooked meal I made - some pork with potatoes, broccoli, corn and carrots and a good old green salad with tomatoes and cucumber and homemade Italian dressing. We also had the most delicious super large Korean grapes and sweet bread and butter for dessert. The grapes smell and taste like grape juice, they are that sweet. Their skin is thicker than grapes back home, so you puncture the skin and pop the grape part into your mouth and spit out the skin and seeds. Pretty much the best grapes we've ever had.
