So we are now relaxing in Michigan at Nick's parents lake house and we wanted to share more of our awesome adventure through the windy city with everyone. We managed to find a great motel called Ohio House thanks to Yelp...we didn't even realize that it was within walking distance of everything we wanted to see, hooray.
We walked along the river all morning and got great shots of the city and the skyscrapers and took a trip up the Sear's Tower to the Skydeck, it was sweet seeing all the views.
We had amazing hot dogs (loaded with everything, even a dill pickle spear!) at Portillos and explored Millenium Park. We saw awesome sculptures and even caught a free symphony concert in the park! It was crazy...we were walking through the park and turned to each other..."do you hear violins??" and bam there was this field and the symphony playing! We also loved the Bean, and took lots of pictures there.
Then we meandered up Michigan Ave and window shopped a bunch.
We ducked into Bloomingdale's Home which was in a converted church, it was gorgeous and we had a lot of fun arguing over what kind of furniture we'd like to have in our home one day...Nick likes modern, I'm a little more traditional :)
Then for dinner we went to Rosebud's Trattoria on Dearborn and Hubbard...it was one of the better Italian restaurants we've been to! We had delicious lobster bisque and shared a bottle of Santa Margharita pinot grigio. Nick had a HUGE fillet of salmon (cooked his favorite way, piccata style, yum) and I had "priest strangler" pasta, which was tube pasta with lobster and shrimp in a creamy asiago red sauce. It was delicious. We hit up an Irish pub and shared a cider with Stix, Tess's best friend from high school and then called it a night.
In the morning it was raining pretty heavily so we went over to the John Hancock building and
then had fantastic deep dish pizza at Pizza Due...pepperoni and spinach. Amazing. We really had the greatest food while in Chicago, we loved it.
Also, I uploaded four albums worth of photos on my facebook account. So if you can, feel free to look at loads more photos. You can also go to bencipix.shutterfly.com to see all the photos we've taken thus far.
Then we got in the car and drove four hours to get to Michigan and we've been having a great time with Nick's family. We got out the jet skis and dogged them a bit today, it was good times. Tomorrow we are watching fireworks over the lake (they do them on the 3rd so they don't compete with town's on Saturday) and having a bbq at Grandma Darlene's house. It should be nice :)
I'm so proud Chicago was so good to you! PS When you come back, I found a place here in Ashburn that sells true Chicago hot dogs!!! Shipped in directly from the Windy City!!!
