Bumming around Bangkok and Partying in Pattaya

We have safely arrived in Thailand!!!!!!!!!

After a wonderful Christmas lunch with our friends we left Korea and the cold. Last night we got into Bangkok and spent the remainder of the evening there. We stayed in the city on Khao San Road, which is a series of (mostly) pedestrian streets that are alive and busy all night long. The streets were full of vendors peddling dresses, t-shirts, purses, wooden elephants, and so much more. There were food stands with gigantic woks frying up spring rolls and pad thai, bbq chicken and even scorpions! We had some absolutely delicious pad thai with chicken and egg made for us on the street, piping hot and topped with peanuts and a spicy red sauce. We also had delicious deep fried spring rolls that we skewered into pieces and burned our tongues on in our excitement to eat the tasty morsels. People were out everywhere we went. We walked around for several hours, too excited to sleep, checking out all the nightlife and city life that was wildly swirling around us.

In the (late) morning we had the hostel we stayed at hire us a car to take us down to Pattaya, where we are staying for the majority of our vacation. Pattaya is a resort-y beach town on the coast of Thailand. Our friend has a house here that he is letting us stay in...and what a house it is! We did not know anything about the house really until we showed up. It is a lovely three bedroom three bathroom home with a private pool in a gated community with a five minute walk to the Indian Ocean. It is big and beautifully furnished and is more than we could have hoped for. We were so excited when we first saw it that we literally danced for joy!

After our excitement for our fabulous Thai home died down but our excitement for the Thai beaches grew larger, we headed over to the beach and snagged ourselves some beach chairs and an umbrella mere feet from the ocean. We were very pleased to discover how cheap and convenient Thailand is. Vendors walk up and down the beach with assorted wares, including delicious treats like fresh fruit, spring rolls, steamed crabs, giant shrimp, baked fish, fried chicken, ice cream, and much, much more. We will be lazing about on the beach just about every day, I think...not only is it beautiful but it is very very nice to be pampered in such a way. There are even vendors who will give you a massage or a pedicure right on the beach!!! You never have to leave your beach chair! We started our much desired tans today and we both hope to be browned by the sun by the end of our trip. It is gorgeous weather, a sticky hot that is only soothed by the ocean waves.

We are so happy to be here safe and sound and we are looking forward to the next week in paradise!
